Voinovich School to host leadership seminar

In today’s ever changing global environment, leaders face complex problems. In order to adapt and innovate, they need a tool kit of strategies for success. The Ohio University Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs seeks to educate leaders about those strategies by launching a new professional and executive education program with an upcoming seminar.  

The seminar will be held on April 25 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and will focus on leadership in the public sector. Dr. Jim Mahoney, the Former Executive Director for Battelle for Kids, will deliver a key note address to share his thoughts on leadership practices.

Two courses will be offered as part of the seminar.

Organizational Communication and Conflict Management in the Public Sector will be taught by Dr. Ross Alexander. Alexander is the Dean for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and a political science professor at Indiana University-East. Course objectives include:

  • Effective communication
  • Improving interpersonal communication
  • Diversity and intercultural communication
  • Conflict management

Venture Development for Social Enterprises will be taught by Faith Knutsen . Knutsen is the Associate Director for TechGROWTH Ohio at the Voinovich School. Course objectives include: 

  • How to use Venture Model Canvas for both public and nonprofit sectors
  • Organizing and identifying key partnerships, activities and resources
  • Building customer relationships, channels and customer segments
  • Cost structure and revenue stream

The seminar will take place at the Dublin Integrated Education Center and requires a registration fee of $200 per person. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Front-line supervisors and managers, mid-level managers, and high potential employees in local, state or non-profit organizations are encouraged to attend.
